The elongated oval bowl is carved from wood. On the sides are short handles decorated with two mother-of-pearl inlays on each side. The bowl was given a coat of ochre clay dissolved in chicken blood. Each traditional Palauan household had numerous wooden bowls of various sizes, each used for different dishes. The elongated bowls were mostly used for boiled, dried or smoked fish.
